Terroir
in Alsace

Our estate, located in Alsace, benefits from the rich history and gastronomy of this region, where wine plays an important role.

More precisely, you will find us in the town of Ottrott, a wine-growing village at the foot of Mont Ste Odile well known, notably for its famous rouge d’Ottrott. The village, clinging to the hillside, is very stretched in length.

The whole estate is spread over 75 plots. For our crémants and white wines our white grape varieties are planted in neighboring towns.

Because of these varied locations our vines benefit from specificities found in certain localities that have very particular characteristics, such as the Lieu-Dit “Affenberg” and “Ensberg”.

AFFENBERG

It bears the Alsatian name of “Montagne des Signes”; this small mountain facing south-south / east has a clay-limestone soil which produces grapes for some grand white wines, such as Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.

ENSBERG

This Lieu-Dit, which is perfect for making powerful Riesling is a south-south / west facing slope, providing optimal exposure. The name means “End of the Mountain”, the particular location protects the vines from overly hot weather which preserves the moisture in the soil.
