There are two Muscat grape varieties grown in Alsace.

The Muscat called "à petits grains" or "Muscat d’Alsace" appeared in Alsace at the beginning of the sixteenth century (and by the way it was mentioned by the great Alsatian poet Fischart). The Muscat Ottonel appeared in Alsace in the middle of the XIXth century. It differs from the mild Muscat du Midi by its characteristic dryness. Extremely aromatic, it emanates wonderfully fresh fruity notes.
